2011 - 2012 Studio Policies

Our studio policies are in accordance with those recommended by MTNA and MMTA for independent music teachers.

Studio Year:

Lessons begin the week of September 19th, 2011 and will continue through Friday, May 11, 2012.

Vacations:

Christmas and Spring vacations will coincide with those weeks designated by the Portland Public & St. Pats Schools.

There WILL be lessons on school half days and snow days if possible.

Christmas Vacation: The Studio will be closed Dec. 19th-Jan 6th

Thanksgiving vacation: The Studio will be closed the week of Nov. 21st

Spring vacation: The Studio will also be closed Apr. 2nd to Apr. 6th

Snow Days

There WILL be lessons on school snow days if possible.

Music:

Students will be required to purchase their own music at our request. Marshall Music in East Lansing and J.W. Pepper in Grand Rapids carry all required music. Guitar students can also find music and equipment at Smith Music in Portland, Elderly Instruments and Marshall Music in Lansing, and Firehouse Music and Guitar Center in Grand Rapids. We will be specific in our requests concerning title and composer or equipment.

Practice Goals:

All students progress if consistent time is given to daily practice. Parents must be available to encourage good practice habits and to let us know if problems occur.

Materials:

Students MUST come to lessons prepared by BRINGING THEIR MUSIC AND LESSON NOTEBOOK. Materials seem to be remembered more easily if they are kept in a music bag of sorts. Students, please remember to wash your hands before playing at your lesson to help avoid spreading illness.

Performance Recitals:

Christmas Recital (optional)

Sunday, December 18, 2011 @ 2:00 and 4:30 pm

Spring Recital (required)

You may choose which March date best fits your schedule.

Attendance and Make Up Lessons:

The scheduled lesson time belongs to the student. All students must call prior to missing a lesson. We realize there are emergency situations that will constitute exceptions. We will schedule up to 3 make-up lessons during the month of May. Three (3) missed and unexcused lessons will risk the loss of your lesson time.

Please write all checks to Sherry Miller. We can NOT accept checks written to the studio.

SPRING RECITAL DATES CHANGE

Our spring recital dates have changed.  The new dates are Saturday, April 21st at 10:00 am and Sunday, April 22nd at 2:00 pm.  Both recitals will take place at the Portland United Methodist Church.  We are looking forward to sharing the talents of these great young musicians.
